Why are the nine days of Navratri celebrated?
The festival of Navratri, as its name implies, lasts for nine nights, and nine is the biggest number that can represent all the encompassing energies that surround the entire cosmos. The Divine Mother is the only entity that can represent these energies. (Maa Shakti). Maa Durga is revered in her nine manifestations for this reason.
Day 1 of Navratri:
Kalaash Sthapna
The Kalash Sthapna comes first. During the Navratri holiday, the Kalash Sthapna ritual is performed to elicit the blessings of the Hindu goddess Durga. The Kalash, which is decorated with betel nuts, money, and mango leaves and filled with water, symbolizes the goddess's heavenly power. The coconut that is put atop the Kalash represents the deity.
Putting a Lamp on:
Lighting a candle is the next action. (Akhand Deep). Ghee (clarified butter) or, if that's not feasible, mustard oil, should be used to burn it. Because it symbolizes the energy of Brahman and the burning of the Akhand Jyot during Navratri, this lamp should be continuously kept burning for nine days.
Maa Shailputri's tale
Ancient texts claim that Sati was Lord Shiva's consort. (One of the three forms of the Supreme Being). She was also Daksh Prajapati's daughter. All of the significant people from the cosmos were once invited to a large Yagya that Daksh Prajapati organized, but he left out his son-in-law Shiva and his daughter Sati. Sati was irritated when she learned of this and showed up uninvited to the Yagya ceremony with her spouse. In fact, Sati noticed numerous instances of her spouse being disrespected. She passed away right away, and in his rage, Shiva destroyed the complete Yagya ceremony. In the subsequent birth, Sati assumed the shape of Parvati or Shailputri in the home of the Himalayas.
